Overview

Open WebUI is a self-hosted chat and RAG front end that points at Ollama, OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic-compatible backends, which makes it the natural interface layer for a marketer who wants confidential client research and drafting to stay on their own machine. It exposes a full REST API authenticated with bearer tokens or JWTs, including OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible chat endpoints and file and knowledge endpoints for RAG. Read the licence before deploying it for a client: it is a BSD-3 base plus a mandatory clause forbidding removal of Open WebUI branding, with an exemption only under 50 users, so it is not OSI open source and white-labelling requires a paid arrangement.
